Carnivals come alive at dusk like some kind of erotic nocturnal flower. People wear different clothes at county fairs than they would probably anywhere else. They eat ridiculous food, pickles-on-a-stick, fried dough. The young kids are always on their phones.


Powwows are an odd mix of carnival, religious ceremony and athletic competition. The QuaPaw powwow is the oldest in the country and I’ve been photographing there for the past four years.


I’m new to Texas and rodeo. But i do own several cowboy hats.
